I thought I might post the solution we came up with. We started a second processes of both the web and app servers to be used by our self-service users. Inside that web server's directory, we modified start.html to point to our employee self-service page. We also commented out the line that implements breadcrumbs for that web instance. Next, we modified WEBLIB_MENU.ISCRIPT3.FieldFormula to change the "Home" link for %PrimaryPermissionList = {self-service permission list}. I think that covers all the changes.
