Any requirement which is not supported by the delivered system is called a "gap." Those requirements which "fit" are mapped to the delivered functions and data records. Data records from the legacy systems are mapped into (and converted for) the new system, desk procedures updated, operators trained, and processes scheduled accordingly. When you hear someone talk about "vanilla," this is what they mean. Those requirements which are identified as "gaps" may be modified to "fit," or they may be abandoned as not cost effective. It has a far reaching impact on how efficiently you build your app. PeopleSoft delivers several Query trees that are vital in setting up access groups and query security. Trees can play a role in views you create. If you use Query to help construct your view, you may use the 'in tree' criteria operator. You may have account and department trees that determine your chartfield combination edits. If you plan on reporting your data, you will find trees extremely useful. They play a big role in Query/Crystal, nVision, SQR, and Cube Manager (OLAP). And like a lot of things in PeopleSoft, they are effective dated. Hello Geetha I was just looking at the pspnlfield table last week. I wasn't able to figure our what values were held in the dsplformat field. If you figures them out could you pass them along? Thanks Jen : Hello Gladdy : No, it does not store info in the binary form and it does not store any images, etc. As the field name dsplformat says, it stores the display format of the field. And, I want to know all the fields in all the panels with a particular display format and change the format. : I know, peoplesoft comes up with numbers for each combination of the check boxes(display format) checked on the field properties and I was able to come up with a solution for my problem. : Thanks anyway. : Geetha. : : Hi Geeta : : This information from the panel is sored in binary format and cannot be queried from SQL, since it is in the binary form, This is stored may be if you are storing some critical information or images etc. Just out of interest I want to know why do you have to check this system table. Since I think this table keeps the field definition of people soft fields created. : : : : Hi all!! : : : There is a field called dsplformat in the pspnlfield table which stores field definitions on panels. : : : Does any body know the relation ship/mapping between the numbers stored in this field to the actual field properties?? : : : Any help is appriciated. : : : Geetha. ***************** End Of Article ****************** Patrick Coffey posted Message 723 in Message Board Dated : March 26, 1999 at 20:08:39 EST Subject: Re: New book on PeopleSoft Development I've read 'Implementing PeopleSoft Financials' and I too found it wanting for technical insight.
