I have no idea how to do a Entity Relationship Diagram and the worst part is, i have a two page case study to handle.
I have identified the 17 entities though:
1)conference
2)Reviewers
3)presenters
4)delegates
5)presentation
6)rooms
7)accomodation
8)audiences
9)social event
10)payment
11)speakers
12)venue
13)bookings
14)hotel
15)registration
16)published papers
17)reports
We are also allow to add more entities.
1)I have also made my assumptions :
2)Each Conference Have at least one audience
3)presenting and non-presenting delegates are the same
4)registration and payment are the same entity, i.e.payment is made during registration
5)Accomodation booking also include payments
6)social event booking also includes payment at the same time
7)each presenter attends at least one presentation
8)at least one speaker at each conference
9)conference is promoted to at least one presenter and delegate
10) delegates only need one place to stay.
The case study is as follows:
PC- PremierTech Conferences
Sharon and John are the proprietors of Premiertech Conferences, a conference org. buz in Melbourne's eastern suburbs.
Since 1985, PC has been a major provider of information and education in network technologies through annual conf. in Mel.,bringing together the world's leading authorities on strategic technologies and key topics such as globalisation and technology. PC organizes each individual conf. via its own conferencing system.
the computerised conferencing system currently provides prospective presenters and delegates with information about a particular conf, arranges for them to register for the conf.,book accomodation, and book for the conf. dinner.
PC is a completely computerised company. HOwever, recent trends and new delegates requirements have placed demands on their computerised conf information system which it cannot cuurently support. these new demands include higher delegate expectations of svc, and additional conf facilities.
Description of Operations and Problems
PC books a conf venue for each conf, and arranges dates and times fo the conf, which typically last 3 days. Sharon and Jon have now recognized the need to arrange several presenters and delegates through brochures and other media. Sharon and John organize several keynote speakers to attend each conference, and details of those apper in the promotion material.
within the conference promotion material, a request is issued for potential additional presenters to submit presentation proposals, in the form of printed draft papers submitted to Sharon or JOhn.
